The publishing industry is on the cusp of huge change driven by the rapidly evolving capabilities of Artificial Intelligence. This does raise ethical concerns and practical issues, but also promises to offer exciting opportunities. Many organisations are poised with bated breath, waiting for copyright laws to stabilize and confirm how AI can be effectively embedded into workflows and production processes. In readiness for that time, this course will enable freelancers working in Educational and English Language Teaching publishing to master the skills and tools needed to harness AI's potential, equipping you to work collaboratively and flexibly with Educational and English Language Teaching publishing organisations.

The first three iterations of this online course are now complete (see attendee testimonials below). Please join the waiting list to be notified of additional workshop dates that may run in future.

Note that the course tutor, Paulo Dantas, will be leading a CPD event on 29th January 2025 which will explore what developments we can expect in generative AI in the near future and how they might impact the ELT and Educational publishing industry.

What are previous participants saying about the course?

  • I'd experimented a bit with ChatGPT previously and hadn't been impressed, but my eyes have really been opened in terms of what's possible when you really get your head around how to prompt and refine the results efficiently.

  • The very specific examples of creating IELTS practice tests made me see immediately how I could apply what I'd learned.

  • The session on identifying and effectively mitigating bias was fascinating and impressive. Lots of food for thought there!

  • I've enjoyed the sessions I've been to. It definitely helps to attend more than one session to gain a real overview.

  • It was really useful that the example applications were all highly relevant to our work as educational editors/writers.

  • I now feel much more aware of the huge potential as well as the issues.

  • Paulo is so knowledgeable! Really personable, diplomatic, encouraging. Thoughtful answers to all our questions.

  • [Paulo is] well prepared, including sending us links before the module so that we're ready when it starts.

  • I've been thinking about it and telling everyone constantly.
